Lab Assessment

Our Verdict on the Signia Active Mini IX

The Signia Active Mini IX is a premium prescription hearing aid with a visible-in-ear style, priced at $4,696. In HearAdvisor's lab testing, it achieved an A grade with a SoundScore of 4.5/5, ranking #13 among 36 prescription hearing aids tested.

This device demonstrates strong speech performance in our testing framework. Speech in quiet scored 4.1/5, which is 0.79 points above the category average—a notable strength for everyday conversations. Speech in noise measured 2.6/5, above the category average by 0.61 points, though only mixed in absolute terms, suggesting challenging listening environments may still require effort.

Music streaming is a standout feature, scoring 3.6/5—nearly a full point (0.96) above the prescription hearing aid average. Own-voice comfort also performed well at 3.2/5, 0.45 points above average. However, feedback handling scored 2.5/5, which is 2.21 points below the category average, indicating this device may be more prone to feedback issues compared to typical prescription aids.

The Active Mini IX suits users prioritizing speech clarity and streaming quality through a discreet earbud-style design. Those particularly sensitive to feedback or requiring maximum stability during physical activity should weigh the feedback performance against the device's other strengths.

Test Configuration

Signia Active Mini IX Lab Testing Documentation

Our lab documents the specific settings and conditions used during each evaluation. The notes below detail the test configuration for the Signia Active Mini IX measurements.

Lab Notes

Initial fit observations

In the Initial Fit configuration using a vented sleeve coupling with integrated receiver and Signia's IXFit formula, the Active Mini IX achieved a normalized score of 4.5/5. Speech in quiet reached 4.0/5 and speech in noise measured 2.4/5. Feedback handling performed well at this fit stage with 3.8/5. Own-voice comfort scored 3.2/5 and music streaming measured 3.6/5. This represents solid out-of-box performance with minimal setup required.

Tuned fit observations

The Tuned Fit maintained the same vented sleeve coupling and IXFit formula, achieving a normalized score of 4.4/5—a slight decrease of 0.1 points from Initial. Speech in quiet improved marginally to 4.1/5 and speech in noise to 2.6/5. However, feedback handling dropped notably to 2.5/5, suggesting that tuning adjustments increased susceptibility to feedback. Own-voice and music streaming remained unchanged at 3.2/5 and 3.6/5 respectively.
