How We Test

The Audien Atom Pro 2 is a budget-priced OTC hearing aid that earned a C grade in HearAdvisor's lab testing, ranking in the bottom 21% of OTC devices tested. At $289, it sits in the lowest price tier but faces stiff competition from better-performing alternatives at similar or lower prices.

In our lab testing, the Atom Pro 2 struggled significantly with speech audibility. Speech in quiet measured well below the category average, and speech in noise performance was similarly limited. These results suggest users with moderate hearing loss may find the device provides minimal benefit for understanding conversation, particularly in challenging listening environments.

On the positive side, the Atom Pro 2 demonstrated excellent feedback stability, scoring a perfect 5.0 in our standardized feedback challenge tests. Own-voice comfort was also slightly above average, meaning users are less likely to experience the "talking in a barrel" sensation common with some hearing aids. However, the device does not support Bluetooth streaming, so music quality could not be evaluated.

For budget-conscious shoppers, several alternatives offer substantially better sound performance in the same price range. The Lucid Enrich Pro ($199) and Linner Saturn ($129) both outperformed the Atom Pro 2 while costing less. The Elehear Beyond, while at a similar price point, achieved a significantly higher score of 4.35. The Atom Pro 2 may appeal to those prioritizing simplicity and feedback-free operation, but consumers seeking meaningful speech benefit should consider higher-performing options.

Lab Test Summary

In the initial fit condition with closed domes, the Audien Atom Pro 2 delivered well below average speech audibility in both quiet and noisy environments. The closed coupling helps explain the above-average own-voice comfort score of 2.6, as it provides some occlusion management. Feedback handling was excellent at 5.0, indicating stable operation without whistling during our challenge tests. However, the overall fit score of 1.37 reflects the device's limited ability to make speech more intelligible for our target hearing loss profile. No Bluetooth streaming capability was available for music testing.

What is HearAdvisor's Initial Fit?

The Initial Fit approximates the most likely settings and eartips for a typical moderate hearing loss. Results are measured across the same 72 acoustic scenes in our custom-built lab, then scored on a 5-star scale using an auditory model.
