Zepp Clarity Omni Expert Review

Budget OTC
Released
2024

Summary

The Zepp Clarity Omni is a budget-priced OTC hearing aid released in 2024, earning a D grade in HearAdvisor's lab testing. At $399, it sits in the lowest price tier of the OTC category, but our testing revealed significant performance concerns that place it near the bottom of devices we've evaluated.

In our standardized lab protocol, the Omni ranked #51 out of 56 OTC hearing aids tested, with a SoundScore of 1.11 out of 5—well below the category average of 3.43. This represents a substantial gap compared to similarly-priced alternatives. For context, the Elehear Beyond achieves a score of 4.35 at the same $399 price point, while several other budget options like the JLab Hear OTC (3.65) and Apple AirPods Pro 2 (3.56) significantly outperform the Omni.

The device does offer modern convenience features including rechargeable batteries, iPhone and Android streaming capability, and hands-free functionality in a behind-the-ear form factor. However, these features don't compensate for the core sound performance limitations we measured.

Based on our testing, consumers in the budget OTC segment have considerably stronger options available at this price point. Those prioritizing sound quality for speech understanding should explore higher-performing alternatives before considering the Zepp Clarity Omni.

In the initial fit condition using a tulip dome coupling, the Zepp Clarity Omni achieved a fit score of 0.00 out of 5, which falls well below the OTC category average. The tulip dome is an open coupling style that typically provides natural sound quality and reduced occlusion but may limit gain for moderate hearing losses. Our lab was unable to capture complete performance data across all standard metrics in this configuration, which contributed to the below-average overall assessment. The proprietary manufacturer default fitting formula was applied during testing.

In the tuned fit condition, the Zepp Clarity Omni retained the same tulip dome coupling as the initial fit, with no change in configuration available to better match prescriptive targets. The tuned fit score remained at 0.00 out of 5, showing no improvement over the initial fit. This lack of improvement is notable, as most devices show at least some gain when parameters are adjusted. The limited fitting flexibility may restrict the device's ability to accommodate varying degrees of hearing loss or user preferences.
