HearingAssist Eaze Expert Review

Budget OTCReleased 2023
How We Test

The HearingAssist Eaze is a budget-priced OTC hearing aid that earned a B grade in HearAdvisor's lab testing, ranking in the bottom half of the OTC category at #33 of 56 devices tested.

In our standardized testing, the Eaze demonstrated mixed performance. Its standout strength is excellent feedback handling, scoring a perfect 5.0/5—well above the category average. This means users are unlikely to experience the annoying whistling that can plague some hearing aids. However, speech understanding scores fell below average in both quiet and noisy environments, which are typically the most important metrics for daily use.

At $399, the Eaze competes in a crowded budget segment where several alternatives deliver notably stronger sound performance. The Elehear Beyond, at the same price point, achieved a significantly higher score of 4.35/5, while the MDHearing Volt offers comparable performance for slightly less. Buyers prioritizing value may want to explore these alternatives before committing.

The Eaze is best suited for users who prioritize feedback-free operation and basic amplification over maximum speech clarity, or those seeking an affordable entry point into hearing assistance with rechargeable convenience. Users who frequently navigate challenging listening environments like restaurants or group conversations may find the below-average speech-in-noise performance limiting.

Lab Test Summary

In the initial fit condition with closed domes, the HearingAssist Eaze delivered below-average speech performance in our lab testing. Speech in quiet scored 2.30/5 (below the 2.62 category average), while speech in noise scored 1.00/5 (below the 1.20 average). The closed dome coupling contributed to below-average own-voice comfort at 2.20/5, meaning users may notice some occlusion effect when speaking. The bright spot was feedback handling at a perfect 5.00/5, indicating excellent stability without whistling during typical use. Music streaming was not evaluated for this device.
