GoHearing Ultra Expert Review

Budget OTCReleased 2022
How We Test

The GoHearing Ultra is a budget-priced behind-the-ear OTC hearing aid that earned a C grade in HearAdvisor's lab testing, placing it near the bottom of the OTC category at #49 of 56 devices tested.

In our standardized testing, the GoHearing Ultra struggled significantly with its core function of improving speech understanding. Speech in quiet and speech in noise scores both fell well below category averages, suggesting limited audibility benefit for the target hearing loss profile. The device maintained the same open dome configuration in both initial and tuned fit conditions, with no measurable improvement between them—an unusual result that indicates limited adjustment capability.

On the positive side, the GoHearing Ultra demonstrated excellent feedback stability, scoring above average with no audible feedback during our challenge tests. Music streaming quality also measured slightly above the category average, making it acceptable for casual media consumption. The rechargeable battery and dual-platform streaming (iPhone and Android) add convenience at this price point.

However, at $499, consumers have substantially better options in the same price range. Competitors like the Elehear Beyond (4.35/5) and Nuheara IQBuds Max (3.68/5) offer meaningfully better speech performance for similar or lower prices. The GoHearing Ultra may appeal to users prioritizing feedback-free comfort and streaming over speech clarity, but those seeking meaningful hearing improvement should consider higher-performing alternatives.

Lab Test Summary

In the initial fit condition with open domes, the GoHearing Ultra delivered well below average performance on speech metrics in our lab testing. Speech in quiet scored just 0.10/5 and speech in noise scored -0.80/5, both substantially below category averages. The open coupling contributed to below average own-voice comfort scores. However, feedback handling was excellent at 5.00/5, and music streaming measured above average at 3.60/5. The overall initial fit score of 1.05/5 reflects the significant speech audibility limitations despite adequate media performance.

What is HearAdvisor's Initial Fit?

The Initial Fit approximates the most likely settings and eartips for a typical moderate hearing loss. Results are measured across the same 72 acoustic scenes in our custom-built lab, then scored on a 5-star scale using an auditory model.
