BlaidsX Micro Hero

BlaidsX Micro Expert Review

Budget OTCReleased 2024
How We Test

The BlaidsX Micro is a budget-priced OTC hearing aid that earned a C grade in HearAdvisor's lab testing, ranking in the bottom third of the OTC hearing aid category. At $499, this visible-in-ear device uses disposable batteries and targets cost-conscious consumers seeking basic amplification.

In our lab testing, the BlaidsX Micro showed mixed results. Its standout strength is feedback handling, scoring 0.50 points above the category average—one of the few metrics where this device performed well. However, speech clarity metrics fell short: speech in quiet measured 0.32 points below average, and speech in noise was 0.40 points below average, which may limit benefit in challenging listening environments.

The most significant weakness was own-voice comfort, scoring 1.51 points below the category average. This suggests users may experience noticeable occlusion effects, where their own voice sounds boomy or unnatural. The device does not support music streaming, which limits its versatility compared to many competitors.

Budget shoppers should note that better-performing alternatives exist at similar or lower prices. The Elehear Beyond, for example, costs $100 less at $399 while achieving a significantly higher score of 4.35/5. The BlaidsX Micro may suit users prioritizing basic amplification with reliable feedback control, but those seeking stronger speech clarity or own-voice comfort should consider higher-rated options in this price range.

Lab Test Summary

In the initial fit condition with a power dome coupling, the BlaidsX Micro delivered below-average performance across most metrics in our lab testing. Speech in quiet scored 1.70/5 and speech in noise scored 1.00/5, both falling short of category benchmarks. Own-voice comfort was particularly weak at 1.00/5, well below the 2.51 category average, indicating significant occlusion issues. Feedback handling at 4.30/5 was the relative bright spot, though still slightly below average. The overall initial fit score of 1.53/5 reflects limited out-of-box benefit without professional adjustment.

What is HearAdvisor's Initial Fit?

The Initial Fit approximates the most likely settings and eartips for a typical moderate hearing loss. Results are measured across the same 72 acoustic scenes in our custom-built lab, then scored on a 5-star scale using an auditory model.
