Go Hearing Go Prime Expert Review

Budget OTCReleased 2024
How We Test

The Go Hearing Go Prime is a budget-priced OTC hearing aid that earned a B SoundGrade in HearAdvisor's lab testing, placing it in the lower portion of the OTC category. At $299, it represents an entry-level option for those exploring hearing amplification without professional fitting.

In our testing, the Go Prime demonstrated notable strengths in feedback handling, scoring well above average with no audible whistling during standardized challenge movements. Speech understanding in quiet environments also measured above the category average. However, the device struggled significantly in noisy situations, scoring 0.80 points below average on speech-in-noise testing—a meaningful limitation for users who frequently encounter restaurants, social gatherings, or other challenging acoustic environments.

Own-voice comfort proved to be another weakness, with occlusion-related scores falling below average. This closed-dome device may cause users to perceive their own voice as boomy or hollow, which can affect wearing comfort during extended use. Music streaming functionality was not available on this device.

Budget-conscious shoppers should note that several competitors in the same price range offer stronger overall performance. The Elehear Beyond ($299) achieved a significantly higher 4.35 score, while the Lucid Enrich Pro delivers better sound quality at $199—saving $100. The Go Prime may suit users primarily in quiet settings who prioritize feedback-free operation, but those needing robust noise management should consider alternatives.

Lab Test Summary

In the initial fit configuration with closed domes, the Go Hearing Go Prime delivered mixed results in our lab testing. Speech clarity in quiet measured above the category average at 2.80/5, suggesting reasonable amplification for calm environments. However, speech-in-noise performance was notably weak at 0.40/5, indicating significant difficulty delivering intelligibility in competing background sounds. Feedback handling was excellent at 5.00/5, with no audible whistling detected. Own-voice comfort scored below average at 1.80/5, reflecting noticeable occlusion effects typical of closed coupling. The overall initial fit score of 1.94/5 fell below the category average.

What is HearAdvisor's Initial Fit?

The Initial Fit approximates the most likely settings and eartips for a typical moderate hearing loss. Results are measured across the same 72 acoustic scenes in our custom-built lab, then scored on a 5-star scale using an auditory model.
